Indonesia
Second trip to Indonesia. This was specifically to photograph the Komodo Dragon and Black Crested Macaques but as I was travelling with a small group it also consisted of the Orangutans in Kalimantan.
This was my first trip with Des Ong photography and the small group and these specific species was something I was looking forward to. The trip turned out to be one of the least enjoyable trips I have been on. It started with drunken participants, one of whom was unable to even get on the plane to the first destination and culminated in yet another drunken encounter with one of the group. I’m not teatotal and like a beer but alcoholism in a small group is not something I would recommend.
In addition to that the Komodo dragon island was a glorified zoo with guides carrying sticks with meat on a string and locals selling merchandise. In addition the boat that took us to the island was not seaworthy in my opinion and lead to a very uncomfortable night in dirty conditions.
Im afraid I wont be recommending this trip and I don’t think Des will be running it again!
The upside of the trip was the Black Crested Macaques and the very cute, Tarsier.
