Peru

This was a holiday with Elaine so slightly less photography time although very much focused on wildlife with the exception of the Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu. We visited three main areas; Cusco, Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado.

On arriving into Peru we spent one night in Lima, flew to Cusco to relax and recover from the long flight. Cusco is a beautiful city and not to be missed. We then travelled to the Sacred Valley and Machu Pichu, back to Cusco and then a few days in the Manu National Park. Manu was extremely rustic with cold water showers and basic accommodation but we still had a great time and could easily have spent much longer in this area.

Next we fly to Iquitos to the Amazon in the north of the country and had a few days at Treehouse Lodge (very nice), and spent our days on a small river boat going up and down the tributary’s of the amazon. We then transferred to the Aria Amazon, a luxury live aboard boat, for five days of undisputed luxury. Quite a difference from our adventure in Manu NP.

Finally, we flew to Puerto Maldonado and transferred to Tambopata and spent six days in two lodges exploring the area, predominantly on foot.

No specific highlights on this trip, although the luxury boat on the Amazon had to be something special. I did enjoy Machu Pichu, photography on the Amazon tributaries and the Macaw clay lick at Tamboppata.
