This trip was in two parts; one week with Natures Images snowmobiling from Longyearbyen and a week on MS Origo with Arctic Wildlife Tours.
The trip started out well and got great photos of arctic fox and a great siting of a polar bear but on the second day I fell off the snowmobile and hurt my ribs. It was the day we were camping at -35c and because of my injury I couldn’t get comfortable in the tent although I think the temperature had some impact on that!.
Next day I somehow managed to get back to Longyearbyen and that was the end of my snowmobiling activity. By the end of the week there was no sign of improvement so i took a trip to the hospital to ensure that I was OK to go on the ship and was told I was OK but try not to do anything energetic. There wasn’t much chance of that! In eight days we had one reasonabe sighting of a ploar bear and a few pin prick in binocular sightings. Very disappointing. Managed to read four books as there was a signifcant amount of downtime.
I think this will be my last arctic trip.
