Our first trip to Colombia was rather last minute but I was fortunate to meet Rene Monteroe from Jagarundi Travel at Rutland Water. Rene put together an itinerary in record time and provided supurb suggestions with a detailed list of bird species we may see throughout the trip.
The trip consisted of two parts the north of Colombia focusing around the Santa Marta area and then the western Andes from Pereira down to Popayan. A break in the middle allowed Elaine and I relaxation time in Cartagena in a very nice hotel in the town close to many nice restaurants.
This was one our most enjoyable trips to South America on account of many great bird viewing destinations and also the great company of our guide. Lots of photos and quite difficult to keep the number of what I consider to be great images low!.
Sorry but there was over one hundred images from this trip.
I think the highlight, apart from the relazation time in Cartagena, was the Andean Cock of the Rock at Dora Dora. Listening to them calling in the early morning from a hide which was within 2 metres of the birds (there was over ten different birds at one point) was just amazing.
